GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Sales Manager, the Sales Engineer is responsible for the commercial leadership and successful execution of customer opportunities from initial qualification through project completion and customer acceptance.

Working collaboratively with New Customer Development Managers, Engineering teams, customers, and global Daifuku organizations, the Sales Engineer leads proposal development, commercial strategy, contract negotiations, forecasting, project coordination, and customer communications to secure new business and ensure successful project delivery.

As the primary commercial owner of assigned opportunities and projects, the Sales Engineer is accountable for balancing customer requirements with business objectives while effectively managing scope, schedule, budget, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Partner with New Customer Development Managers to evaluate, develop, and advance qualified sales opportunities in support of strategic business growth objectives.
• Prepare and deliver accurate quotations, proposals, pricing analyses, and other commercial documentation to support customer requirements and sales objectives.
• Lead commercial discussions and negotiations to secure contract awards and purchase orders.
• Coordinate with Engineers, customers, factories, and internal stakeholders to support successful project execution.
• Serve as the primary commercial owner from order receipt through project completion and customer acceptance.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and commercial commitments.
• Communicate project status, resolve issues, and maintain customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate sales forecasts, project records, contractual documentation, and related business systems to support operational and financial reporting.

• Strong commercial and business acumen, including the ability to evaluate opportunities, manage financial considerations, and support organizational objectives.
• Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with the ability to effectively plan, coordinate, and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.

• Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to identify risks, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality results, building strong relationships, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and initiative, with a proactive approach to achieving objectives and driving projects to successful completion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Project.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time and work additional hours, including overtime, as business needs require.

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Communications, or related field preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE (Equipment, Tools, Principles, Software, Math, etc.) and EXPERIENCE

• Business Knowledge
Understanding commercial sales processes, quotation development, contract review, budgeting, forecasting, and project execution.
Working knowledge of project management principles, schedule management, cost control, and risk management.

Knowledge of international business practices and experience working with global teams preferred.

 

Industry Knowledge
General understanding of industrial automation, semiconductor manufacturing, material handling systems, and related industries preferred.
Working knowledge of engineering terminology is sufficient to communicate effectively with customers and internal technical teams.

 

Computer Skills
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Outlook) (Required).
Windows OS (Required).
SAP experience preferred.
Experience with CAD viewers and project management tools preferred.

 

Language Skills
Japanese language proficiency preferred.

 

Experience:
Minimum 2 years of sales experience in B2B industry preferred.
Experience managing customer-facing commercial projects preferred.
Experience developing quotations, proposals, budgets, and forecasts preferred.
Experience working with international and cross-functional teams preferred.
