The company is currently seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Estimating, the Senior Electrical Estimator plays a crucial role in developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Daifuku Airport America's diverse range of airport technology solutions. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Sales, leveraging specifications, drawings, and other inputs to create comprehensive estimates. This role involves evaluating electrical and software components, considering preliminary designs, managing vendor/subcontractor quotes, contributing to project schedules, and assisting in proposal preparation that aligns with our company's capabilities and strategic direction. A key focus is supporting the Sales team and ensuring a seamless handover to Project Management post-award by developing thorough "as-sold" documentation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate Development & Accuracy:
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates covering all project elements (materials, labor, equipment, subcontracts, site facilities).
    • Perform precise quantity take-offs from project documents and maintain accurate data within estimating workbooks.
    • Develop and manage a cost code database to leverage historical data for improved accuracy.
    • Utilize internal historical data and industry benchmarks to ensure competitive and realistic pricing.
    • Analyze actual project costs against estimates post-completion to refine estimating processes.
  • Bid & Proposal Management:
    • Define clear subcontractor scopes of work, solicit proposals, and evaluate quotes to select the best value partners.
    • Prepare detailed pricing breakouts along with inclusion, exclusion, and clarification notes, ensuring compliance with all specifications, SOWs, and bid requirements.
    • Clearly present and justify cost estimates to internal teams and clients.
  • Collaboration & Project Transition:
    • Engage actively in meetings and initiatives supporting team and company goals.
    • Partner with Engineering to refine scope specifications and project requirements.
    • Collaborate with Project Management on developing initial project schedules.
    • Create comprehensive "as-sold" documentation to facilitate a smooth transition from Sales to Project Execution.
  • Value Engineering & Improvement:
    • Actively identify and evaluate potential cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities.
    • Continuously enhance personal knowledge, skills, and proficiency with relevant technologies and estimating tools.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of engineering principles and their practical application in electrical systems design and production, particularly automation.
    • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, installation methods, and relevant codes/standards (e.g., NEC).
    • Solid working knowledge of PLC systems, particularly Allen-Bradley ControlLogix platforms (understanding architecture, components, and estimating associated costs).
  • Estimating & Analytical Skills:
    • Proven ability to develop accurate, detailed, and competitive electrical cost estimates for complex industrial automation or technology projects.
    • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Project & Time Management:
    • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple projects concurrently under deadlines.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.  
    • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively within a team and build relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and industry-standard estimating software. 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electrical Engineering Technology (E.T.), or a related technical field; OR equivalent combination of technical training and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive electrical estimating experience, preferably focused on industrial automation controls.
  • Experience managing complex bids or estimating workflows.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in the material handling or baggage handling systems industry.
    • Advanced understanding of Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC architecture and components.

Work Environment & Travel

  • This role operates primarily in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment like computers and phones.
  • The position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (2 days remote, per week) following a successful 6-month introductory period.
  • Occasional travel (estimated < 10%) to customer sites for pre-bid walkthroughs or meetings may be required. Site visits may involve navigating construction areas.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform tasks typical of an office environment, including sitting for extended periods, using a computer, and reviewing documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone/video conferencing.
  • Ability to undertake the required travel and navigate various site conditions during walkthroughs.
