Overview

The Senior Controls Engineer will design control systems and power distribution systems for industrial material

handling solutions. This includes development of specifications, device layout drawings, control and power

schematics, PLC and QNX logic and implementing solutions which deliver exceptional value to our customers.

Will work closely with the overall project team to design systems which exceed the project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibility
  • Reviews customer specifications and scope documentation for quotation and clarification
  • Designs system layouts, schematics and control devices
  • Creates a control sequence of operation document to ensure that the design meets our customer’s expectations
  • Maintains a progress schedule that meets project milestones for each project
  • Works in a team environment
  • Prepares schematics and specifications for control and panel fabrication
  • Provides documentation and support to the field wiring team
  • Creates (PLC) Programmable Logic Control program
  • Configures and implements systems that use QNX operating system
  • Works closely with the Software Engineering team to integrate control solutions
  • Performs on-site commissioning to implement and validate the system design
  • Leads and directs project work and less skilled associates
  • Works typically involves regular process checks or review of the output produced by other engineering team members
  • Provides guidance/direction to or train junior level personnel for continued staff growth as skills are learned
  • Travels up to 50%

Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is

qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

 

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in electrical/controls engineering or a related engineering field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering design and project execution experience
  • Minimum 7-10 years of related experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Requires approximately 50% travel
  • Comfortable with AutoCAD
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines
  • Energetic, friendly, outgoing, and proactive personality
  • Demonstrate creative thinking
  • Have a strong interest in Industrial Automation
  • Be self-motivated
  • Willing to learn and grow with the company
  • Have experience with Allen-Bradley controls/controllers, Schneider and Omron PLC knowledge a plus
  • Have experience using QNX OS is a plus
  • Have experience with various industrial HMI and SCADA systems
  • Ability to speak Japanese is an advantage
