Responsibilities

The Welder/Fitter is responsible for performing job activities required to support production successes including fitting/adjusting parts, tacking, MIG welding steel, and visually inspecting parts to ensure specifications and standards are met for each project.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lays out, positions, secures parts, and fabricates material according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
  • Tack-welds or welds components and projects.
  • Prepares and finishes workpiece using portable grinder or scraper.
  • Welds components in all positions.
  • Set up welding or other required equipment and follow Health and Safety protocols and procedures.
  • Inspect parts to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Perform precision layout tasks and precisely fit together their structural parts and components.
  • Read/work to engineered drawings and welding symbols.
  • Perform shop mathematical calculations when required.
  • Follow all plant safety guidelines, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintain and clean and safe work area.
  • Properly use all personal protective equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years experience as a welder/fitter or similar role.
  • Intermediate experience and knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Intermediate ability using welding tools.
  • Knowledge of machine operation, cutting, sawing, drilling, and grinding parts is preferred.
  • Experience with forklifts and overhead crane preferred.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to repetitively lift 25-50 lbs.
