Overview

The Project Buyer position with Daifuku Intralogistics is a highly valued team member within our procurement team who helps manage our large group of vendors and purchases of materials, parts, and  services.  This position procures buyout components and installation services to maximize value and maintain project schedules by working with external vendor contacts and internal stakeholders to ensure Daifuku has the items we need to meet the project demands of our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates project requirements (buyouts/installation) and determines optimal solutions (balancing volume discounts, packaging, shipping minimums) for purchasing decisions / order placements to ensure our project execution team can meet customer requirements.
  • Places purchase orders with vendors and follows-up with vendor communication, shipment timing and deliveries. Tracks progress, communicates any issues or changes internally, and problem solves to ensure our company is meeting production demand requirements.
  • Responds to emergency requirements from various departments, including Logistics, Accounting, Operations and our spare parts team to communicate with the vendors in question and coordinate an optimal solution to keep purchased items are meeting project requirements as needed.
  • Monitors and tracks vendor performance to our requirements, and manages vendor to improve performance when necessary or initiates actions to replace vendor(s) as needed
  • Initiates and manages potential cost reduction actions needed from vendors; through being involved in product cost discussions with product management and product engineering team(s); and achieve cost reduction through vendor engagement, VA/VE initiatives and negotiations when possible.
  • Manages the buyout and installation RFQ process from start to finish.
  • Understands and manages long lead items, safety stock and inventory constraints for the parts/materials the buyer is responsible for, and manages this balance with company stakeholders and vendors.
  • Operates as a collaborative team player with all stakeholders and looks for areas to help improve internal processes, better manage vendor selections and improve our vendor base and works to drive excellence in all areas of procurement within the Daifuku-Wynright team.
  • Ability to influence others and build valuable relationships across the various teams at Daifuku with a strong team-player spirit, a “can-do” collaborative mind-set and a positive attitude.
  • Persuasive communication skills for presenting ideas, concepts, and negotiation with internal and external teams.
  • Ability to prioritize sourcing efforts regarding cost, time, risk mitigation, and quality in order of highest value first and to manage multiple responsibilities and multi-task on a daily basis.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively and develop or even re-negotiate supplier contracts.
  • Strong strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills regarding supply chain. The ability to foresee sourcing problems before they occur is vital to this role.
  • Knowledge of vendor relationship management, score cards and purchasing tools
  • Basic knowledge of negotiation tactics with a large base of suppliers
  • Computer skills including MS Office and experience using MRP/ERP system(s)
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with a focus on improving our company’s efficiencies and status.
  • Travel up to 10% to review our vendor partnerships and engineering processes.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with purchasing or similar complex administrative job
  • Knowledge of vendor relationship management
  • Basic knowledge of negotiation tactics involving multiple vendors and subcontractors
  • Computer skills including MS Office
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines
